January Made me Shiver; Feburary Made me Quiver
Posted in: Bodily Functions, Health, Weather | Comments
I don’t know what March will hold in store because I can’t think of another word that rhymes with shiver and quiver. Perhaps March will deliver. Hmmm… what pray tell will be delivered in March? Perhaps new computer? That would be nice; However, it is highly unlikely.
May be my headache will go away in March? Well, it has “only” lingered for the last 24 hours or so, so no biggie. Just so long as it doesn’t carry through ’til April. I’m sure that April will bring other headaches. Did someone mention Uncle Sam?
But we’re being proactive. Which isn’t quite the same as Probiotics. Which, by the way, is a GREAT name for the acidophilus product that I started taking after my 10 day bout with a stomach virus (which one by a unanimous decision — actually it was a technical knock out) to replace all the dead bacteria that was killed by the antibiotics. I used to take acidophilus. I don’t know why I stopped. But then again when I was taking it it didn’t really solve all my stomach problems. Hmmm, perhaps “Quiver” wasn’t the right word for the month of February. But, for the sake of not being gross, we’ll use the word “Quiver” as a substitute for diarrhea and vomiting. Come to think of it, “Quiver” might be the perfect word to describe what my stomach was doing. We digress (BTW, what’s the opposite of “digress”?).
The bottom line is thus… today marks the end of the month. Tomorrow is a new month; A new week; A new day; And a world of possibilities and boundless potential. So, let’s all make it something special.

I Can’t Dance
Posted in: Ethics, Life, Love, faith | Comments
And I really can’t sing… despite my delusions of grandeur in the shower, or ALONE in my car.
But, does this make me out of tune with the Universe? Sometimes I wonder.
The world seems to spin on a different plane. Sometimes I feel out of touch. Or, am I in touch, and it’s the world that’s out of kilter? By the way, just what is kilter?
Is it unusual to wonder about wondering? It makes me wonder. And I’m still wondering what “kilter” means. I’m resisting the urge to go look it up, since I don’t want to get distracted. It’s been a while since I posted and if I get distracted I might not find my way back here again for a while.
It’s a good thing I’m starting a (free) meditation class this coming Monday. It’s something I need to do. To keep my mind from wandering. And from singing. And thinking about why I can’t dance.
I don’t want to get all philosophical in this post… but the thought keeps always popping in to my mind right now (and it has “plagued” me all my life), pondering why we are here. On Earth. Alive. What’s the purpose? What’s the reason? Do we need a reason to be? A reason to dance? Or, should we just dance like no one is watching us. Lord I hope no one is watching me. Not that I’m paranoid. Just self-conscious.
So what’s the biggie if I can’t dance. Who’s to say what’s good dancing, and what’s bad dancing? Come to think about it, who’s to judge anything that we do except our own moral compass (this is not to argue that there are just certain things that are universally, morally, and ethically, wrong — so we’ll put those aside for now and just make the assumption that they’re just accepted, or should I say not accepted, as wrong). Shoot. I lost my train of thought.
So, let’s dance like there’s no tomorrow. Sing like no one is listening. And never look back (they might be catching up. Whoever they are
).

If ONE Is The Loneliest Number
Posted in: Irreverant Observations, Relationships | Comments
And TWO can be as bad as one… it’s the loneliest number since the number ONE.
Then what is THREE?
Trouble.
ONE and ONE is good or not good depending upon circumstances. THREE is complications. Plain and simple.
Would FOUR be better than THREE? No. Too (not TWO) many permutations to consider, to contemplate, cogitate, and aggravate. Exponential number of possibilities to screw up. Stay away from FOUR. Run away from THREE. And get out of the ONE state of mind and being.
Can FOUR become two TWO’s? Possibly. But there’s no going back. Once divided; Twice conquered.
Though it is true that ONE and ONE and ONE make THREE. That THREE could be a good THREE.
Ever notice that there’s nothing in the human form that comes in THREE’s or FOUR’s? You’ll find ONE’s (eg. mouth), TWO’s (ears… and it’s important to recognize that we have TWO ears, but only ONE mouth), and FIVE’s (toes and fingers).
Ever notice that we have only ONE heart? And, a broken heart is the loneliest, and saddest, experience that we ever do.
NUMBERS.
Go figure!

A Crab Wanton…
Posted in: Food, Irreverant Observations, Life | Comments
Either:
- Is hard to find
- Is worth two in the bush
- Keeps the doctor away
- Crossed the street to find a chicken
- Is the saddest song in the world
The answer is below.
So until we get to the answer (don’t shout it out if you know it, or if you’ve heard this one already), let’s examine this more closely.
A question like this can either be posed in a philosophy class, a health education class, the gym, or in a fortune cookie.
The answer of course is that it was posed in a fortune cookie. Well, it wasn’t actually postulated as a question, but it was presented as a fortune.
That should help you figure out the answer, right?
Of course, things aren’t always as they seem, are they?
If we always took things at face value, we’d be short changing (not a good fortune either to have) ourselves, by deluding us to take things as they appear (which may be a good strategy in certain, yet very limiting, situations). By delving deeper we come to a greater understanding. Hence the Confucian way. Or, are we just confused?
Do we take things as they seem to be? Or, do we wish for things to be as we wish them to be? Can we change things to fit our needs? Or, our wants and desires? Is that fair to the things? Is it fair to us?
We can’t make gold from tin; or wine from pickles. Though we can make lemonade from lemons, if we so desire. And therein lies the lesson for the day. Yes, you can’t squeeze the melons until you get the melons home.
Now that we have that squared away, the answer to the question above is obviously 3. A crab wanton keeps the doctor away.
But, you knew that already, didn’t you?

My Daily Bread
Cinnamon Toast. Period. End of post.
French Toast.
Bagels. Though they must be NY Style… boiled then baked.
Matzohs.
Flat Bread.
I really could have stopped at Cinnamon toast… but that wouldn’t be all encompassing. And there’s one bread that I had almost forgotten all about. I got a nibble on it a few weeks ago. I could have eaten the whole loaf. Do you know what I’m talking about?
I’m talking about the kind of bread that when your nose gets a hold of its holy aroma that you fall in to a hopeless trance… your body involuntarily walking (or running) to follow the scent… your mouth starts to salivate… knowing that the texture of the slightly crispy crust followed by the almost cake-like, slightly dryer, meat of the interior of the bread that is laced with caraway seeds….
This can only be found in a bakery. Never in a supermarket.
A good jewish rye bread is truly manna from heaven.
Enough writing.
Pass the butter.

The Perfect Ending to the Perfect Day
Posted in: Health, Life, faith | Comments
There is no such thing. And why would you want there to be? A perfect day shouldn’t end. But alas there likely isn’t such a thing as a perfect day either. But at least it give us something to strive for. What would a perfect day be like? I have no idea.
I do know what a good day is… and I know that there have been days that have been seemingly perfect (the birth of my son pops in to my head)… but it always seems that there’s a certain something that takes away from it. Perhaps we shouldn’t dwell on the negative (which harkens me back to my New Years Resolution). The negativity is usually brought upon us by outside influences. Whether they be events or people. We have no control over that/them. Just let it be, and let it go.
Should we then not strive for the perfect ending to perfect days? What about perfect endings to good days? Or rotten ones? I think if we can make good days in to perfect days; Or rotten days in to good days, and perhaps even perfect ones, I think we’re on the right track.
Here’s something that each and everyone of us does have control over. We can decide how we wake up every morning. Think about it. Then try it. Decide that every day you wake up it will be a perfect day. Everything will go your way. Everything you want; Everything you hope for; Everything you desire will be yours.
Put your mind in that positive state of mind. Good things will happen. It can. And, it will.
You will find yourself eager to get out of bed and greet the day. Let the good times roll. Once again.

Thin Ice
Posted in: Life, faith | Comments
Skating away…
No, you can run, but you can’t hide. Facing facts. Facing fears. The thin ice makes us all nervous. Makes us fearful. Uncertain. SCARED. And, we don’t even know what’s on the other side. Heck it might even be good. Or better, than what we have now or where we are now.
Face fear? My modern day philosopher and spiritual healer, The Big D, offers this advice/mantra: F*CK FEAR!
Easier said than done, of course. BUT, what are we truly afraid of? We can’t live out of fear… can’t live off of other people’s expectations… can’t be guided by misguided Guides.
Ignore the BS.
Harken back if you may to times that you have taken chances… remember the outcomes (of course I venture to guess that in most cases not only did things not happen as you feared, but the outcome was quite the opposite, so…); remember how it made you feel. Think/Feel what you felt then. Remember the sights; the sounds; heck, even smell it, and visualize everything as it was then.
Here’s the exercise for today (and the rest of your life). Every time you’re about to do something you dread/procrastinate, write down the situation (start a journal), get in tune with what you are feeling (emotionally and the physical sensations as well). THEN, after you complete whatever it is that your dealing with, once again record what the outcome was and how it made you feel. Record every detail.
After a while you’ll have a reference for you to draw strength from every time you face adversity or have to deal with something, someone, some situation, etc. And all of a sudden you’ll realize that your ice (skin) isn’t thin. And you can skate oh so smoothly through/over whatever barriers life places in your path.
Skate on!

Did we have to take a good thing (the cookie) and destroy (make it crumble) before we could decide that it wasn’t good enough? I’d venture to say that in most cases it was good enough (delicious, enjoyable, fun) as it was. Why do we have to keep testing it? Sounds to me that we want to destroy that which we have. To what end? To PROVE to ourselves that it wasn’t good enough? Can’t we be satisfied? Can’t anyone be happy? Or is happiness the elusive thing that we want, but when we have it we can’t accept it?
Pretty bizarre behavior, don’t you think? And it sounds like human nature. But it’s just the opposite of what human nature should be. I think this is why we’re so messed up today.
We can NOT handle that which we want.
Or, do we want things that are unrealistic? Or are the things that we want determined to us of faulty role models? Take a look around you. Who do people aspire to be like? Really look at them. What are some of their characteristics? Where has it gotten them? What’s the end result? Why do these role models seem to come to tragic ends? Is that what you really want in your life? What do you want in your life?
Forget about outside influences… I think that if you examined these influences, you might see that they’re not happy in their lives, and they don’t feel that anyone deserves happiness that they themselves cannot have so they look for ways to destroy what you have… saying it’s not this; it’s not that; NO NO NO. It IS what you make it. It is what YOU want it to be.
Have the guts to have faith in yourself.
And, just remember that in the end the love we take is equal to the love that we make.
