Chimps in Space
Or, Space Chimps. I think the Muppets originally did “Pigs in Space”. Regardless (or irregardless — don’t get me started on that one), this movie was much better than the Muppet skit.
Rain in sky forced us to alter our plans today. Swimming for sure was on the agenda for some time during the day We were going to work that around a trip to the Zoo. I love the Holtsville Zoo. It’s free. But, that’s not the only reason I like it. Parking is free too. Still, I like it for even more reasons than that. It’s a nice, clean, well run, place to take the family that won’t cost you an arm and a leg. Did I mention it was free? Aside from the Staten Island Ferry, what can you do these days that’s free? And educational? And fun? And, they even have clean bathrooms (something the Staten Island Ferry could NOT claim about 40 years ago (probably the last time I was on one… perhaps they’ve upgraded their lavatories since then. But, I don’t know where the revenue would come from for such a major, and I mean major, renovation that would have been required. Renovating the Statue of Liberty was likely an easier operation).
Torrential rains put the kibosh on all external activities. Seems like we weren’t the only ones that thought of going to the movies. But, we were still able to score some good seats at matinee prices… an excellent parking spot (just south of the lake that had formed at the north end of the parking lot)… and got a nice suprise when I ordered the Jumbo Popcorn and Soda (Lemonade to be technically accurate)… we got a “free” box of candy. We’re getting smart in our, umm, experience, and we just buy ONE popcorn for everyone to share, and we sneak in a few cups to dole it out to everyone. We did all have to drink from the same straw so it was good that no one was sick before we went to the movies.
Three short previews (they ran out of coming attractions? Not that I’m complaining), and the movie began and we blasted off on a most excellent adventure.
I give Space Chimps two opposable thumbs up!
