Have You Ever Been to Heaven?

Well, that’s what Prince Edward Island is.  If you’ve never ventured up there do yourself a favor and make a long week of it.  Also take in Nova Scotia.  And when visiting Prince Edward Island, there’s no better time than visiting than during Old Home Week, which would normally be concluding tonight with a huge celebration at the Charlottetown Driving Park with racing of the Gold Cup and Saucer.

This is like the Kentucky Derby and Hambletonian, but perhaps on even a grander scale for this tiny Canadian Province.  It seems like the entire Island, and visitors from 100’s of miles away are in attendance.  There’s wall to wall people lining the apron of the racetrack.  There are bands playing, a beauty contest, and so much more.

There are parades and a big party all over the Island.  And of course, there’s the Anne of Green Gables house on the north side of the Island — not to mention that the play is running at the convention centre in Charlottetown for the umpteenth consecutive year.

The bad news is that the Gold Cup and Saucer was to be run tonight… so you would have missed.  The good news is that due to inclement weather and hazardous driving conditions the entire racing card was postponed to tomorrow, Sunday, at 1:00pm.

If you can’t get there in person, you can watch all the races which are streamed live over the internet.  To view click on the logo below:
