Breaking in to the top 1,000,000
It took only about three weeks of monitoring, but now three of our illustrious sites are in the Alexa Top 1,000,000. When we first put the Alexa toolbar on our browser we were ranked in the neighborhood of 3M. Look at us now.
In case you don’t know my know which websites I’m talking about, here ya go:
And this blog which three weeks ago was ranked > 13M is now at 2,492,651 in the entire universe. If this were a billboard chart we’d have an asterisk next to our asterisk.
You may say, what’s the big deal? It’s true. It’s just a number. And, of course, one that advertisers pay strict attention too. And, hopefully too, do venture capitalists. But, of course, the main reason why these blogs and forums exist is not to make money, it’s the ONLY reason. Wait a minute, that didn’t come out quite right. The main reason these blogs and forums exist is to subject the masses to my thoughts, wishes, and of course, my demands. Ummm, gosh that didn’t really sound right either did it. So, why am I blogging? Why did I create two forums? Simple answer actually. It’s fun. I set it as a challenge to myself to see if a) I could actually do it, and b) to see if I could make a success out of it. And, that success isn’t measured by Alexa Rankings, Google Page Rankings, or Advertiser revenue (but keep those checks coming — and, for some reason I haven’t been getting any. Are you guys SURE you have my correct mailing address?), but to me it’s measured by getting a following. Not that I truly do believe that anyone that reads my blogs or forums really cares what I think. But, I truly do believe that, especially in the case of the Forums, that they like to learn from one another. And I offer them a forum to voice their opinions, ask their questions, and share their expertise. Obviously on a blog it’s a little bit more difficult. Though everyone is welcome to comment on any thread, it’s not quite so interactive as a Forum.
So, where do we go from here? They say there’s no view like the view from the top. Let’s ride this rocket and see where it will take us. We’ve only just begun.
