The Disaster (a.k.a. The $700B Bailout)
I did some research on Wikipedia. If anyone has better, more accurate, figures, please share them in the comments section.
The current total population in the United States is 300,000,000.
Per 2007 Estimates:
27.4% of the population is younger than 20.
72.6% is 20 and older.
Therefore there are 217,800,000 people in the United States that are 20 and up.
Per a 2005 study by William Thompson & Joseph Hickey, 16% of the population is in the Upper-Middle and Upper class. Therefore 84% of the population is in the Middle-Middle class or “poorer”.
Suppose hypothetically that we would distribute the $700,000,000,000 bailout NOT to the Corporate world, but instead give it equally to every United States citizen that is 20 years old and older, and not in the Upper classes?
- 182,952,000 people would receive a share of the pie
- Each and EVERY person would receive a check for $3,826.14.
- Therefore a household with a husband and wife would receive a total of $7,652.28
