True Grit
Not here. Not in New York. Forget the Rangers. They’ve already gotten off the ice and on to the putting greens.
But, let’s talk about the New York Mets and New York Yankees, and not necessarily in that order. Either order really. It just doesn’t matter. They both STINK!
You would think that with both teams playing in brand new Ball Parks that they would be extra juiced to put on a good show. Neither team has won anything in a while. Why not now? It’s not like the don’t have the players to win. Or, do they?
For a while there it was the Mets. When they fell behind, you might as well just go home, turn off the TV, and pursue other more pleasurable pastimes.
Then there’s the Yankees. You would think that even with their dreaded, despised, and HATED rival, the Boston Red Sox were on the field that they would show up and compete. That’s all we’re asking. Is give the game a chance. Don’t give up.
It’s amazing how they pile up the runs when they’re way ahead. But, god forbid they need to scratch out a run. Then, this is not how you spell relief: P-A-T-H-E-T-I-C. But, that’s what they have been.
It looked they might have gotten their mojo back after they blew a 4-0 lead a few days ago, falling behind 9-4. Then they scratched and clawed their way back in the eigth inning, but were still training 9-8. You kind of felt that’s how the game was going to end and that they would go down meekly in the bottom on the ninth. But, not this time… Whack, Whack, Whack, Whack, four straight hit. The Yankees won, the Yankeeeeees WONNNNNNN!
Then? CAPUT.
No grit.
No spunk.
No fire.
Nothing. Nada. Nil.
