Went to a Yard Sale
Tried to buy a foot. They gave me a funny look.
Made an offer on their Weeping Willow tree. They asked me to leave.
Customer service isn’t what it used to be. Growing up I remember accompanying my Grandmother on her shopping excursions to Alexander’s up on 57th Street in Manhattan. I couldn’t believe how slow the salespeople were. Used to drive me crazy (hmm, that explains a lot now, doesn’t it?). But, at least there WERE salespeople around. Now god forbid you actually WANT to buy something. Good luck finding anyone. I think the most effective way to get help is to just start walking out the door with your item. Someone is eventually bound to come to your, umm, assistance.
Why have we lost the human touch? Is it the ever competitive race to shave the last penny in earnings? Don’t businesses understand if they cut here and there willy nilly, that they’re actually cutting out customers? The employees have to shop too! Well, not if they can’t afford to. Talk about penny wise and pound foolish. Sounds to me like we’re on a viscious cycle that’s leading us in to the abyss of recession.
As for me, I’m going to go to another yard sale this weekend. I’ll don a fake mustache and glasses lest I get banned again before I even get to bargain hunt.
